The project in a few words

Breaking the Beat (BTB) is a project that aims to restore the original power of Hip-Hop, giving voice to the voiceless, using the arts as instruments of expression and self-affirmation. In particular, the projects focuses on young people who have been left behind in the process of globalization and who have been pushed into the typical marginalization of urban and suburban areas in post-industrial cities.

During this project, Bidaia will encourage the participants to share their daily lives and social reality, we will increase their intercultural and inter-social awareness and instil a sense of common experiences and solidarity. Hip-Hop is used as a way to address the frustration caused by issues of social exclusion, discrimination, racism, sexism and poverty, while also promoting active participation of youth in society.

Main Objectives

  • Empower young people by encouraging them to express themselves through the arts,
  • Raise awareness about the social power of artistic expression,
  • Connect young people with the same passion by sharing a common creative process,
  • Use hip-hop culture to raise awareness about topics such as social exclusion, discrimination, racism, sexism, poverty and frustration,

  • Empower young people and improve their foreign language competencies through an intercultural learning experience using non-formal education tools.
