The project in a few words
Out of the Media Labyrinth (OML) is a Youth Exchange organized by Primi Piani APS that will explore the complex topics of digital literacy, the development of critical thinking, fact-checking skills, and the recognition and deconstruction of fake news among European youth.
During the project, the allegory of the Greek myth of Ariadne’s thread, which helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur and safely exit the labyrinth of Minos, will be used. We believe it is extremely effective in depicting, in a simple and intuitive way, the complexity of the phenomenon we will be working on.
Main Objectives
- To develop critical thinking in participants regarding media consumption and to provide them with a set of tools to actively and analytically verify and interpret the information they receive.
- To educate about the dangers of opinion polarization, particularly as presented by social media.
- To build each participant’s confidence in forming and expressing their ideas and viewpoints.
- To redifine participants’ relationship with media consumption to develop a healthier approach that maximizes the benefits of modern communication technology.
- To cultivate a broader understanding of the world we live in and encouraging more active and effective engagement within society.

Youngsters (18-31 years old) that…
- … are interested in media literacy, critical thinking, and communication, and want to learn more about these topics
- … are interested in art, photography, videomaking and podcasting
- … are fluent in English as a working language (being able to understand and communicate in English for the entire project)
- … can commit to attending to the project for its full duration
- … are proactive and willing to learn more about the topic
- … are residing in Germany
- … We encourage the participation of participants with fewer opportunities. (Participants with fewer opportunities will be prioritised.)
Hosting Organisation
Primi Piani Odv is an Italian association active since the year 2007 that aims to stimulate active citizenship through the commitment of the associated volunteers and its associates, using non-formal education, multimedia and communication tools and, in addition, through the dissemination of artistic, cultural, creative and scientific content.
The main purpose is to select and disseminate audiovisual, photographic, artistic and textual content on social issues and to promote them, above all by, digital means through the Web and, when applicable, through press, printed publications and the organization of dedicated events.
