The project in a few words
Back to the Roots is a youth exchange that will take place in Leipzig, Germany from October 6th to 17th. It will involve 42 youngsters from seven countries. This project builds on the success of the #Voices4Weapons project organized in October 2021. It will focus on using hip-hop and its different disciplines for self-growth and as a tool that can lead to social inclusion.
We will reclaim hip-hop’s original power as an impactful form of expression and a driving force for change. We will bring this essence to youngsters and co-create a space where every voice is heard, and creativity is used as a tool for empowerment and connection. We are going to focus our lens on the captivating narrative of hip-hop. It is more than a genre of music or a form of dance. It represents an intricate frame of stories related to empowerment, unity, and social inclusion. At its core, hip-hop is a history of resilience. It is a chronicle of communities finding strength and solace in artistic unity.
We will give importance to this topic and foster empathy and values of inclusion by examining the history and perspectives of a culture that was born in marginalized contexts.
We will address the problematic proliferation of gang culture among young people, especially those from marginal or semi-marginal social-economic backgrounds.
