The project in a few words

Modern societies’ relentless consumption habits have led to an increasing problem: the staggering volume of trash produced. From plastic packaging to electronic waste, our throwaway culture poses a profound threat to the delicate balance of our environment. Landfills overflow, oceans choke with plastic debris, and ecosystems strain under the weight of our excess. The consequences are dire, with pollution ravaging landscapes, endangering wildlife, and exacerbating climate change. As the custodians of this planet, it falls upon us to confront the harsh realities of our throwaway society and seek innovative solutions to mitigate its impact.

‘Upcycle It!’ is a youth exchange that wants to work at the intersection of artistry and sustainability. The project invites participants to explore the transformative potential of upcycling techniques, turning trash into treasure and raising awareness about sustainable habits in the process. Through hands-on workshops, participants will harness their artistic skills to repurpose discarded materials into works of art. From reclaimed wood sculptures to plastic bottle installations, ‘Upcycle It!’ challenges us to reimagine our relationship with waste and embrace a more eco-conscious way of living.
