The project in a few words
“Back and Forth” was a youth exchange organized by Associazione Kora in Passignano sul Trasimeno (Italy) in June 2023, focused on the topic of food traditions and their impact on the planet.
The project involved 36 young people from 6 different countries in a multicultural experience. During the project participants experienced several non-formal education activities, such as cooking workshops, debates and intercultural learning activities. That is where the project acts: create a safe environment where people with different backgrounds, cultures and points of view can share experiences, learn and appreciate the process.
Objectives of the project
During the youth exchange, the project achieved the following goals:
-
-
-
- Provided participants with knowledge about food choices and their impact on environment
- Shared and increased awareness about national/regional traditions of participating countries
- Investigated the concept of cultural identity and its connection to food traditions
- Promoted the introduction of environmental sustainability in traditional recipes and meals
- Provided practical cooking skills to participants
- Raised awareness on differences and similarities of participating countries’ cultures and traditions
- Provided young Europeans tools to reduce their impact on the environment through food choices
-
-
The results
During the project, participants produced a cookbook that includes different traditional recipes brought by each national group and that were cooked during the project. For each recipe, there are two versions: the traditional one, and the ‘sustainable’ one, as one of the tasks that participants were given was to renovate the traditional dishes to lower their impact on the environment.

Hosting Organisation
Associazione Kora was founded in August 2015 to promote social and cultural awareness for its members (mainly youth) through outdoor life, socialisation opportunities, nutrition and sustainability. Kora is situated in Passignano sul Trasimeno in the educational farm “La Buona Terra”, where it collaborates with other entities who have their activities on the farm. Kora was founded to offer activities that neither the cooperative nor the agricultural company can carry out.
