The project in a few words
‘Act it Out!’ is a course organized by Hang-Kép Egyesület in Debrecen (Hungary) in September and October 2023, focused on using the technique of the theatre of the oppressed to work on social inclusion.
Theatre of the Oppressed is a collective rehearsal for reality. The main idea of this methodology is to make people experience and understand how a change of an attitude, behaviour or thinking pattern can have a powerful significant effect on their life as well as lives of people around them.
The participants will get to know the methods of the Theatre of the Oppressed (mostly Image Theatre, Forum Theatre and Newspaper Theatre) and will learn how to use them in their respective communities to initiate social change and help the inclusion of vulnerable groups of youngsters.
Main Objectives
- To increase the capacity of youth work sector to raise participation and involvement of young people in social processes and change;
- To support the inclusion of marginalized groups in the local communities;
- To stimulate the exchange of best practices in youth work field;
- To increase the quality of the youth organization projects;
- To develop and improve skills in non-formal education in general, and in particular in Theatre of the Oppressed methods for youth workers from Europe;
- To develop a network of Forum Theatre multipliers in various regions of Europe;
- To improve project management, communication, team leading and motivations skills for youth workers;
- To increase the level of active participation of the local communities and different target groups of each partner.
Who can apply?
Youngsters who are at least 20 years old that…
- … have experience working with young people or with performing arts
- … are fluent in English as a working language (being able to understand and communicate in English for the entire project)
- … can commit to attending to the project for its full duration
- … are proactive and willing to learn more about the topic
- … are residing in Germany
- … We encourage the participation of participants with fewer opportunities. (Participants with fewer opportunities will be prioritised.)
Hosting Organisation
Hang-Kép Egyesület was founded in 2000 in Debrecen. The organization deals with mass communication, and is particularly interested in conveying messages to society. Young people can learn how to prepare printed and electronic press materials, online media, public speaking, and informational audio and visual materials. In addition, the organization help non-governmental organizations to present their own messages to the public as best as possible, in line with their goals.
